Lisa Barrett received her B.A. in English from Elmhurst College and her M.A.E.D. in adult education/curriculum and instruction from University of Phoenix. Lisa is an ESL instructor at Computer Systems Institute in Skokie and Midwestern Career College in Chicago. She is also a part-time language coach for Rosetta Stone and a part-time writing tutor. This is her first year as SIG leader for higher ed. |

Miguel Fernandez is the Coordinator of the Bilingual Education program at Chicago State University, where he teaches Undergraduate and Graduate Bilingual and ESL courses. He has worked in the field of bilingual education for more than 7 years. He holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Foreign Language and Literature (English) and a Master’s degree in Language Testing and Assessment. He has also earned a doctorate in education. |

Maribel Garcia is a bilingual teacher at Cicero Public Schools. She also teaches Methods and Materials for Bilingual Education at National Louis University (NLU – through the IRC). She is also an Adjunct Professor of DePaul University where she teaches Methods ESL. She has worked in the field of bilingual education for more than 11 years. She holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Foreign Language and Literature (English) and a Master’s degree in Education. She has also earned a doctorate in Applied Linguistics. |

Yurimi Grigsby is an associate professor at Concordia University Chicago. She teaches courses on the education of culturally and linguistically diverse students. She earned her PhD in ESL Education from the University of Tennessee. As a member-at-large, she would provide knowledge and expertise in the ESL content area, while supporting colleagues as we all work toward improving education for culturally and linguistically diverse students. She looks forward to working with such a worthy and valuable organization. |

Leah D. Miller is the coordinator of the ESL/Bilingual Education Program at National-Louis University where she teaches graduate courses for the ESL and Bilingual Approvals. She has been a member of ITBE for 20 years and thinks it is one of the best resources in Illinois for teachers of English Language Learners. She has been a member of TESOL for 30 years. She regularly presents at ITBE and International TESOL Conventions. Currently she is writing a book about linguistic aspects of reading in English as a new language. |

William Phelps has taught ESL/EFL in a variety of settings including high schools, two-year colleges, vocational colleges, universities, and adult education programs. As an ITBE Board member, he would like to increase professional development and networking opportunities for ESL educators throughout all parts of the state. |

Khrystyna Sanborn has been actively involved as an ESL instructor at Heartland College since August of 2008. She earned her M.A. in English and Uzbek from Kiev National University. Her love of teaching language began in college whereby she taught English to Ukrainian children. Khrystyna also teaches at Heartland College’s adult literacy program. |

Joshua Thusat teaches ESL for Harry S Truman College. He received his M.A. in English at Bowling Green State University and recently graduated from the graduate program in TESL at Northeastern Illinois University. Joshua has taught ESL since 2004, starting in the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College before working in the English Language Program at NEIU. |
