Leah D. Miller is the coordinator of the ESL/Bilingual Education Program at National-Louis University where she teaches graduate courses for the ESL and Bilingual Approvals. She has been a member of ITBE for 20 years and thinks it is one of the best resources in Illinois for teachers of English Language Learners. She has been a member of TESOL for 30 years. She regularly presents at ITBE and International TESOL Conventions. Currently she is writing a book about linguistic aspects of reading in English as a new language.

Rebecca Walker is currently the Director of Adult Education and Family Literacy at the YWCA Elgin. She is passionate about education and serving our diverse community. She has been involved in Adult Education both here in Illinois and overseas, having worked in the Community College System, and with non-profit organizations. She earned her Master’s Degree in Intercultural Studies and TESOL from Wheaton College Graduate School, which brought her to Illinois. Originally from Pennsylvania, she has also lived in South East Asia, where she taught English at the Royal University of Law and Economics in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Kelly Cunningham holds a BA in studio art and mathematics and an MA in intercultural studies and TESOL. She has taught ESL at World Relief DuPage as well as 5 Chicagoland colleges and has presented at several conferences. Currently she teaches in the focal skills IEP at Elgin Community College and the ESL program at the College of DuPage and is working on the development of an online ESL program.

Kathy Larson has worked as an ESL educator, consultant, and administrator for over 30 years in the U.S. and abroad. Currently teaching at DePaul University, she has also directed IEP and immigrant ESL programs, and consulted for ISBE, NSSED (special education), worker education and family literacy programs.

Jana Prvulovic has obtained her B.A. Degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Nis, Serbia. Jana has over 6 years of teaching experience and 2 years of management experience in education. She taught EFL in private and public elementary schools for three years in Serbia to both children and adults. After moving to the USA, she focused on teaching ESL to adults at Albany Park Community Center and Centro Romero in Chicago, IL. She is currently coordinating Adult Education program at Albany Park Community Center and is responsible for evening, Saturday and off-site classes.

Lawrence N. Berlin (Ph.D., University of Arizona) is Chair of TESL/TEFL and former coordinator of the English Language Program at Northeastern Illinois University. Research interests include effectiveness in language pedagogy, learner issues, pragmatics, critical discourse analysis. Founder of Dialogue Under Occupation and publications include Contextualizing College ESL Classroom Praxis (2005).

Rebecca Anderson; (2011-2012)
Rebecca Anderson is a doctoral candidate at Illinois State University. Ms. Anderson has undergraduate and graduate degrees in elementary education, English literature, and curriculum and instruction, as well as a TESOL graduate certificate. As a graduate teaching assistant, she taught ESL at ISU and, as a Fulbright English teaching fellow, she taught EFL at Pamukkale University in Denizli, Turkey. Ms. Anderson is currently working on her dissertation, which focuses on promoting global citizenship through the study of language and literature. Specifically, her dissertation focuses on poststructural and database-driven linguistic analysis of English language translations of Turkish folklore. This study engages with the following question: how do these English translations reflect cultural attitudes of Western countries (primarily the U.S.) toward Turkey?

Miguel Fernandez (2011-2012)

Miguel Fernandez is the Coordinator of the Bilingual Education program at Chicago State University, where he teaches Undergraduate and Graduate Bilingual and ESL courses. He has worked in the field of bilingual education for more than 7 years. He holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Foreign Language and Literature (English) and a Master’s degree in Language Testing and Assessment. He has also earned a doctorate in education.

Khrystyna Sanborn; (2011-2012)
Khrystyna Sanborn has been actively involved as an ESL instructor at Heartland College since August of 2008. She earned her M.A. in English and Uzbek from Kiev National University. Her love of teaching language began in college whereby she taught English to Ukrainian children. Khrystyna also teaches at Heartland College’s adult literacy program.
