Illinois Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages/Bilingual Education (ITBE) is excited to host our 46th Annual Convention virtually on Friday and Saturday, February 26-27th, 2021.
This year's theme is
RE-ENVISIONING MULTILINGUAL EDUCATION: Transforming the Future.
We are excited to open our convention with our keynote speaker, Deborah J. Short, Ph.D., TESOL International Association's President and founder of the Academic Language Research & Training LLC. Among other accomplishments, Deborah co-developed the SIOP Model for sheltered instruction and has numerous publications and textbooks to her name. We are honored and excited to bring Dr. Short to help ITBE celebrate its 50th anniversary of its inception. Dr. Short will be presenting Integrating Academic Language and Content with TESOL's 6 Principles and the SIOP Model.
Fabiola Torres, an Ethnic Studies professor from Glendale Community College, will open as the keynote speaker on Saturday. Her keynote presentations focus on applying equity-minded methods such as culturally responsive teaching in the online environment, and humanizing online teaching and learning.
Our other keynote speakers include Cristina Sanchez Lopez, Jeff McQuillan, and Karla Sanabria Veaz.
Our two-day virtual convention will have concurrent sessions throughout the day, as well as opportunities to visit the virtual Exhibitor's Hall.
Professional Development Hours will be based on individual attendance, which will be collected in every session. We are looking forward to 'seeing' you at the convention!
