Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are subgroups of the Illinois TESOL-BE membership that are formed around particular education levels: Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Adult Education, Higher Education and Graduate Student. Illinois TESOL-BE members are allowed to join one SIG. SIG membership is free and included in ITBE membership.
Each year, the SIG members meet at least 2 times (at the Annual Convention and the Fall Workshop) and plan activities that address issues that interest them. Each SIG member elects a chairperson, who serves a one-year term on the ITBE Executive Board and who acts as a liaison between the SIG members and the Board. SIG activities are planned by SIG members for SIG members.
The Higher Education Special Interest Group encourages and promotes communication, information-sharing, research, publication, and awareness of English for Speakers of Other Languages and Bilingual Education at the college/university level.
