Adult Education SIG Co-Chair

Cathy McCabe became interested in teaching Adult ESL after volunteering with the Literacy Volunteers of America.  She was inspired to return to school and completed a B.A. in English at Northern Illinois University in 2004. She has been teaching Adult ESL at the College of DuPage for a little more than eight years now.  Since completing her M.A. in Linguistics/TESOL at Northeastern Illinois University in 2010, she has also been teaching in the Intensive English Program at Harper College.  She is very interested in course planning and curriculum development and is currently working on an Action Research Project on the topic.  She looks forward to meeting and networking with new colleagues in Adult ESL as Chair for the Adult Ed SIG.

Lila Birchfield

Lila Birchfield recently retired  after a 33 year career  as a high school French, Spanish, and ELL Teacher/Coordinator.  Presently, she works as an adjunct instructor in the NNL program at Harper College. SIG chair of Secondary Ed for the last 2 years, Lila has also organized many excursions to Europe for high school students.

Elementary Education SIG Co-Chair
Margaret Gigous

Margaret Gigous earned her degree in Elementary Education at Trinity International University. She received her Master's Degree in TESOL from Wheaton College Graduate School in 2002. Margaret is an ELL Specialist in Villa Park School District #45. In addition, she works as an adjunct faculty member at National Louis University.

Jose Resto

José A. Resto is an Enrollment advisor at University of Phoenix, as well as Adjunct Faculty member of Elgin.  Soon he will be back in the elementary classroom where his heart and passion resides, teaching 3rd grade transitional bilingual. He is truly a life-long learner and in keeping true to that part of his nature, he is now to complete his Doctorate in Organization Leadership.  His hard work is paying off, as just recently he was accepted into the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society. Jose currently hold a Type 29 (K-12) endorsed in Spanish, and a Type 03 (K-9) endorsed in: language arts, social studies, business and technology. He completed his Masters in Educational Leadership, and obtained the Type 75 license.
